HOW TO GRAB AND HOLD PEOPLE'S MIND WITH YOUR WRITING

This is going to be a short but powerful thread.

Or maybe not.

It may be long.

However, the thread is for you, and will show you how to grab the wavering and dancing attention of people in today's world of distraction.
Yes, people's attention span is very short these. Microsoft carried out a research and found that the average attention span of people today is 8 seconds

That means you have only 8 seconds to grab and hold people's attention with your writing

That is both a good and a bad thing
And here's why:

Bad thing because, people are not patient enough to hear you out. There's a million and one other things they want to do with their time.

Think about it, while you are reading this, your mind is probably thinking of other things you could be doing.
There's Facebook group post to read, your notification is showing you a Whatsapp message to reply to. An email just dropped. YouTube just sent you a reminder that your favorite channel just released a new video.

And oh, you also want to go check out what's trending on Twitter
So you can join the conversation.

There's so many things begging your attention now that you can absolutely leave this thread right now, right? Good.

People don't have the patience today. That's the bad part. The good part?

Here it is:
If you are able to grab the attention of people, you have been able to get a COMMITMENT from them. This is important.

You have been able to take 1st position on their time table of the list of things they could be doing at that time.

Once you get this attention, you should not
Let it waste

So How do you grab and hold people's attention?

I'll show you 5 ways.

Let's start with the Grabbing!

Imagine you are walking along a busy road with other people as well, and a guy in red shirt suddenly grabs your purse and runs away with it, what would you do?
Hold on. This purse contains huge sum of money, your credit card, your international passport and your national ID card.

So, what would you do?

Would you just ignore this guy in red, and say, 'let him go with it, he's a hungry fellow?'

Of course not.
You'll scream and about so loud, even the dolphins in the ocean will hear you.

Why?

Because this person has taken something BELONGING TO YOU. Something SPECIAL TO YOU!

What is the lesson here:

To grab attention,

1. make it about the reader!
Let your headline scream: "Hey Billy, this is for you!"

If that purse was of no use to you, you probably wouldn't bother. If your headline is of no use to the prospect, they wouldn't bother.

So first thing is, make it about the prospect.
Then, as you do that,

2. Inject an element of surprise or shock.

When our guy in red suddenly snatches your purse, you'll go into a safe of Schick. Why?

Because "You never experredit"

Now you've grabbed the attention, you want to keep it, to hold it. How do you do that?
Let's go back to our guy in red.

When he snatches your purse, what does he do? He runs. You'll chase him, but he'll keep running.

You'll scream and invite others to join you. They will. It'll become the ultimate search. What's the lesson here?
3. Create an open loop and don't close it.

Imagine this story:

"I had been calling my wife, she wasn't picking up. I was worried but also suspicious. I quickly drove home. I have my own keys so I silently opened the door and walked into the house. I approached my room, kicked
Door open, and what I was shocked me to the marrow.

There, was my wife lying naked on the bed. Next to her was something I never believed I'd ever see in my marriage. Next to her was..."

End of story!

Yeah, I know the feeling.

You just want me to finish the story right?
That's an open loop. And that is how you keep the reader engaged. That is what will make people read a long sales letter.

Notice that in the beginning of this thread I promised you 5 ways. And we are at the third. Subconsciously, your mind is waiting for the remaining two.
That is an open loop.

So use open loops to keep the mind of the reader engaged.

Eg. 'we'll be looking at 5 steps. Step 1 of 5:"

You get the drift?

4. Create an open loop, close it... And open another one.

Now, this can be tricky, but if done well is powerful.

How?
After chasing this guy in red and rounding him up in a corner. His back is against the wall, he has nowhere else to run. And you feel a sense of victory.

As you come close to catch him, he disappears I to the ground through a manhole that leads to a river. 😥

The search begins
All over again.

When you write your sales copies, you can close a loop and use element of surprise to open another one.

Let me tell you why this is powerful:

In psychology, it's proven that "the longer I hold your attention, the more possible it is for you to do as I say"
That is why expert negotiators take a long time to negotiate. The goal is to get the other person to become weary and run out of weapons of resistance.

For instance, In have gotten you to read up to this point. You are already hooked and eager to see the 5th point!
And here it is:

5. Use AHA moments as you write.

An AHA event is one that causes the hair on your skin to stand, like "whoa, I wasn't expecting that!"

But note: the goal is to keep your copy interesting and not entertaining.

If you've seen the McDonald's and were an old man
had a quarrel with his wife and went fishing alone. At the river, he brought out his lunch pact to eat. As soon as he placed the McDonald's pack beside him, a large fish came out of the water and ate the McDonald's, even biting off the wooden landing.
The next day, this man brought his troublesome wife fishing with him, Mrs her to sit at the same spot where the giant fish had eaten the McDonald's, and handed his wife a pack of McDonald's.

You can imagine the rest of the story.

That is an example of an AHA moment.
There you have it.

Go apply the lessons to your copies and ads.
Just in case, this is the McDonald's ad.
The look on the man's face when he hands her the snack pack is priceless 😂😂
