This is going to be a short but powerful thread.
Or maybe not.
It may be long.
However, the thread is for you, and will show you how to grab the wavering and dancing attention of people in today's world of distraction.
That means you have only 8 seconds to grab and hold people's attention with your writing
That is both a good and a bad thing
Bad thing because, people are not patient enough to hear you out. There's a million and one other things they want to do with their time.
Think about it, while you are reading this, your mind is probably thinking of other things you could be doing.
And oh, you also want to go check out what's trending on Twitter
There's so many things begging your attention now that you can absolutely leave this thread right now, right? Good.
People don't have the patience today. That's the bad part. The good part?
Here it is:
You have been able to take 1st position on their time table of the list of things they could be doing at that time.
Once you get this attention, you should not
So How do you grab and hold people's attention?
I'll show you 5 ways.
Let's start with the Grabbing!
Imagine you are walking along a busy road with other people as well, and a guy in red shirt suddenly grabs your purse and runs away with it, what would you do?
So, what would you do?
Would you just ignore this guy in red, and say, 'let him go with it, he's a hungry fellow?'
Of course not.
Why?
Because this person has taken something BELONGING TO YOU. Something SPECIAL TO YOU!
What is the lesson here:
To grab attention,
1. make it about the reader!
If that purse was of no use to you, you probably wouldn't bother. If your headline is of no use to the prospect, they wouldn't bother.
So first thing is, make it about the prospect.
2. Inject an element of surprise or shock.
When our guy in red suddenly snatches your purse, you'll go into a safe of Schick. Why?
Because "You never experredit"
Now you've grabbed the attention, you want to keep it, to hold it. How do you do that?
When he snatches your purse, what does he do? He runs. You'll chase him, but he'll keep running.
You'll scream and invite others to join you. They will. It'll become the ultimate search. What's the lesson here?
Imagine this story:
"I had been calling my wife, she wasn't picking up. I was worried but also suspicious. I quickly drove home. I have my own keys so I silently opened the door and walked into the house. I approached my room, kicked
There, was my wife lying naked on the bed. Next to her was something I never believed I'd ever see in my marriage. Next to her was..."
End of story!
Yeah, I know the feeling.
You just want me to finish the story right?
Notice that in the beginning of this thread I promised you 5 ways. And we are at the third. Subconsciously, your mind is waiting for the remaining two.
So use open loops to keep the mind of the reader engaged.
Eg. 'we'll be looking at 5 steps. Step 1 of 5:"
You get the drift?
4. Create an open loop, close it... And open another one.
Now, this can be tricky, but if done well is powerful.
How?
As you come close to catch him, he disappears I to the ground through a manhole that leads to a river. 😥
The search begins
When you write your sales copies, you can close a loop and use element of surprise to open another one.
Let me tell you why this is powerful:
In psychology, it's proven that "the longer I hold your attention, the more possible it is for you to do as I say"
For instance, In have gotten you to read up to this point. You are already hooked and eager to see the 5th point!
5. Use AHA moments as you write.
An AHA event is one that causes the hair on your skin to stand, like "whoa, I wasn't expecting that!"
But note: the goal is to keep your copy interesting and not entertaining.
If you've seen the McDonald's and were an old man
You can imagine the rest of the story.
That is an example of an AHA moment.
Go apply the lessons to your copies and ads.
The look on the man's face when he hands her the snack pack is priceless 😂😂
