New poll of Conservative members. 46% would happily see Nigel Farage as party leader. 63% would accept Scotland leaving the UK as the price of Brexit; 61% would accept "significant damage to the economy"; 59% the loss of N.Ireland; 54% "the Conservative Party being destroyed".
56% describe themselves as "Thatcherites", seemingly unaware that Thatcher was passionate about the Union, committed to the Conservative Party & an architect of the Single Market. There is a good book to be written on the misremembering of Mrs Thatcher.
After Churchill and Thatcher, the most respected leaders among the membership are William Hague and Iain Duncan Smith. 
As I argued in the @NewStatesman last week, the "Conservative and Unionist Party" has abandoned both "conservatism" and "the Union". But it's this cohort that will appoint the new Prime Minister, while the rest of us sit and watch. newstatesman.com/politics/uk/20…
