Had a young 21-yr old carpenter from Bihar work on my house today. Everything he learnt, he learnt from apprenticeship. All he needed from school was basic math and reading. What exactly is the aim of "compulsory" education, now aiming to extend to grade 12? Why force students?
In fact, the plan for compulsory education was exactly that. To kill jati-based apprenticeship. (Similarly for "child labor" laws). The education produced hosts of unemployed and unemployables. Plus the gift of RTE which forces one kind of school, no focus on learning outcomes.
Here is a radical idea. How about you honor the "ustads", the car mechanic who teaches others, the carpenter, the plumber. Consider that a form of schooling. Not the mind-warped RTE that defines schools by "fences" it must have.
"Moral values" cannot be taught in the curriculum. In the Indian context, they are transmitted by stories ("saffron" stories) and by acharyas (acharya->achar, based on being exemplars) and by elders. "Nuclear family," Western-pop-aping media destroy these.
English destroyed ITI as much as it impeded education for most. With RTE, which requires children to "pass" even if they haven't learnt anything, the idea is to completely dumb the Indian mind, render it uncompetitive in all ways. My old article on RTE.

Absolutely agree. In India's copycat madness, it is not even considered what systems are appropriate for Indian conditions. Can only copy English masters, "I wanna be like a man, man cub." RTE final nail on coffin of apprentice-ship based learning.
This is the song that comes to my mind when I see India's English class and their slavishness to the West. "I wanna walk like you, I wanna talk like you..." 😏
