One of the most common put-downs people who want to reject the science of climate change have to climate scientists is to say that we aren't experts. What they don't realise is that we each study a different part of the climate system: ocean, atmosphere, biosphere and more ...
It's rare to have a formal degree in "climate science". More often, this is an area of specialization within a program in atmospheric science, geography, atmospheric physics, oceanography, geoscience, geophysics, and more ... what other fields am I missing?
However--and this is even more impt--when it comes to scientists who study climate, that includes nearly EVERY physical, natural + social domain. This list of nearly 2500 of us includes sociologists, political scientists, glaciologists, ecologists + more: twitter.com/KHayhoe/lists/…
So when students ask me, "I want to work on climate, what major should I choose?" I say: whatever you enjoy & are good at! Our @TTUCSC includes students + faculty from english, media+comm, history, engineering, nat'l resources, law, architecture, polisci, education + more.
When it comes to fixing climate change, we need everyone on board and all hands on deck. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, no matter how old you are or aren't, you have something unique to bring to the table. WE NEED YOU!
I meant to tag you on the tweet above too @ClimateOfGavin but twitter deleted it :)
