Not a good look for next House hearing on climate change and disasters that furthers inaccurate information (spreads lies) from Union of Concerned Scientists on hurricanes.

This is not in accord with current science or consensus anywhere = fraud.

Global Category 4s and 5s have not doubled and several papers discuss why e.g. detection, incorrect analysis.

This is spelled out in detail at NOAA GFDL website, IPCC reports (my research cited) and if you ask any other reputable tropical scientist.

It is problematic that House Democrats would base a hearing on disasters & climate change on inaccurate info.

This suggests a deficiency in committee staff or, more likely, farming out research to activist groups.

Cue the circus music and bring out the clowns 🤡
Reactions so far defending the false claim:

It's okay to lie b/c we need action.

But Trump/Pence.

It's just a typo.

Why can't we just concede this simple fact and then move on with sound policy based upon accurate science?

What I gathered from watching @AOC special on Green New Deal with @allinwithchris

The climate rhetoric is heavy doomsday, catastrophism, and pessimistic.

There is no explanation of how the GND policies actually solves any problems. She mentions "magic wands"
The Congresswoman has a repertoire of talking points that are poorly timed and not responsive to questions.

Her knowledge of climate science and policy is woefully inadequate to effectively promote the Green New Deal. She needs allies & intellectuals providing policy details.
However, there is no sense of optimism or "we can get this done". Instead, it's just a litany of how broken everything is, how everyone's life sucks, and there's no hope.

We are all going to die in 12 years. Panic!

Upcoming blizzard will be a "bomb cyclone" if central pressure drops 24 hPa / 24 hours ... even w/o latitude adjustment, FV3-GFS forecasts 28 hPa/24 hrs. Plenty enough for rapid cyclogenesis.

This process is infrequent over land -- historical example is the Cleveland Superbomb

Snowfall on the backside in Michigan crippled the state -- especially along Lake Michigan shoreline from Traverse City to Muskegon.
The 1993 Superstorm or "Storm of the Century" formed in mid-March ... and reached a central pressure of 960 mb over NYC

It was massive.

2| The framework law includes emission reduction targets, defines CO2 budgets for each sector, and clarifies responsibilities, as well as review, transparency & sanctioning mechanisms. Implementation measures for each sector will be detailled in 2030 programmes, due in Mar 2019.
3| Progress will be supported by an independent advisory group of 7 experts. Focus is on reaching the 2030 CO2 reduction targets, but the draft works towards at least 95% reduction by 2050. The remaining 5% to reach #netzero could be reached through compensation policies.

Just returned from Bangkok, where nations made little progress towards finalising the Paris agreement on climate change that aims to limit global temperature rises over the next 80 years.

It was my first @UN #climate change rodeo and there were a few things I wasn't aware of
Under Paris, countries agreed to a fairly detailed set of promises to keep global temperature rises under 2C by 2100.

It was the first time all nations - both developed and developing economies - signed up to the same set of climate rules. But they weren't binding
Parties gave themselves in effect 3 years to come up with a text agreed by everyone, ratified, and translated into national law on a state-by-state basis. The idea is the accord isn't legally binding, but the rulebook it provides could be on a national level

My essay is only concerned with climate change-related damages in the US spurred, as I argue, by US actors like the oil majors. I could’ve written about Peruvian villagers suing a German energy giant & melting glaciers in the Andes, but that’s beyond the scope of my article.

Good questions @RedsforNamesake. If confronting #climate change is your priority, it is imperative to ramp up carbon-free energy asap.

1. NJ will now ramp up renewable energy from 13% in 2017 and 20% by 2020 under old RPS to 35% by 2025 & 50% by 2030. Impressive leadership.
2. To ensure that this new clean energy replaces fossil fuels and contributes to #climate mitigation goals, NJ's new laws also make payments to ensure the continued operation of 3 South Jersey nuclear reactors that currently supply 31% of the state's electricity consumption.
2. Cont.: That measure is essential and ensures that nearly all of the new clean energy growth over the next 12 years builds on top of the fossil-free foundation provided by the state's existing nuclear plants.
