Thread on tomorrow’s unofficial AA group’s publication.
In summary:

Exemptions and trusted trader schemes. Lots of new checks and bureaucracy, just not literally at the border. Something EU won’t accept on SPS. Carving out Derry/LD, Donegal as its own special economic zone (so a tax and regulatory border in both directions).
Not quite clear why this level of disruption and additional disruption would be any more palatable than physical infrastructure. At least acknowledges that there would be a border and friction. Suffers from prioritising fully independent UK trade policy over status quo in NI.

To my knowledge, the EU has more free trade agreements than any other country/bloc. And it has concluded quite a few recently.
And sure, Canada and Japan FTAs haven’t made their way through the ratification process, but they are provisionally in place. So what more do you want.
The thing is, I get that people don’t like the EU. And there are quite a few things to point at. I just don’t understand why people create completely false narratives to justify their dislike.

Really not convinced by this section of the #ProsperityUK alternative arrangements proposal.

Creates two tax and regulatory borders rather than one ... and also requires Ireland to create a new tax and regulatory border within Ireland.
I have drawn a diagram to assist understanding.

Also, the logic used to argue in favour of a special economic zone on the border could very easily be expanded to argue in favour of a NI-specific backstop.

As the legendary sales trainer and author, Zig Ziglar once said, I’ve been to lots of places in this world of ours. I’ve seen where women gave birth to boys and I’ve seen where women gave birth to girls but so far, I’m yet to see where a woman gave birth to an entrepreneur.
But we read and hear that entrepreneurs die. So if they are not born but to do die, that means somewhere between birth and death, by choice, by training, by experience, by persevering, they become successful entrepreneurs.

Africa's largest livestock producers listed in order of magnitude.

1. Ethiopia - 54 million cattle
2. Sudan - 42m
3. Tanzania - 24.5m
4. Nigeria - 20m

The advantages of extensive grazing grounds in the top 3 are obvious.

Nigeria can easily top the group and attain Africa's leadership position in livestock production IF it can get ITS LIVESTOCK FEED INDUSTRY right.

*More training of livestock farmers

How do we achieve this?
Farmers (including herders and other livestock producers should be encouraged to form local associations that will help them gain access to training, pool funds to invest in equipment and also access loans from development institutions, Agric banks, and even foreign NGOs.

HoL had tabled an amendment specifying no checks & controls of any sort. Pared-back version offered by govt in compromise was passed.

1/ Hugh starts off with the EU's rejection of HMG's current ideas on option A (a new Customs partnership) which he describes as a "Whitehall pipe-dream". I think an arrangement like the current customs union could be found, but I suspect that is not at all what Hugh would like...
2/...since he seems to be upset that the EU has also so far rejected HMG's ideas on option B, the infamous technology-based solution (alongside trusted trader schemes etc.), the panacea solution for all who want a "hard Brexit" outside the EU's CU and SM rules.
