As flagged, the Government will attempt to repeal the #MedeVac Laws which ensures sick people offshore can get the care they need in Australia. 
Likewise, the Government has flagged reintroducing a 2016 Bill to prevent refugees who have been detained offshore ever coming to Australia, even if they are resettled elsewhere (eg USA). Read our submission here refugeecouncil.org.au/regional-proce…
Last year, the Federal Court held that people seeking asylum who were taken to Ashmore Reef (often via force for days) were incorrectly identified as unauthorised maritime arrivals. The Govt plans to retrospectively reverse that decision. Our sub: refugeecouncil.org.au/ashmore-reef-b…
The Govt has also been trying to weaken complementary protection laws since 2015. These laws ensure that those who may not be refugees, but nevertheless face significant harm back home, are also given protection. Our sub: aph.gov.au/DocumentStore.…

These Bills present a significant concern for refugees and people seeking asylum. They also should concern all of us, as the Govt seeks extraordinary executive powers to control the lives of vulnerable people. They failed last time, let’s make sure they don’t pass this time.
