1/n White liberals are significantly (or 18 points) more likely to support increasing penalties for visa overstays when Trump is omitted from the question. Interestingly, no sig. difference obtains among the 'extremely liberal' subset (33% with Trump, 36% without)
A 2016 Pew survey further shows that white liberals--particularly the 'very liberals'-- are significantly less likely to see enacting stricter policies against visa overstays as an important policy goal.
This is interesting, as one of the refrains you'll often hear when debating illegal immigration is that most of the undocumented population = visa overstays. 'Okay, so let's do something about visa overstays...' 'Hmmm...but that's also problematic'
They're also less likely to see preventing welfare abuse among immigrants as an important goal
