1. A Question of Citizenship
The question doesn't actually accomplish all that much by being on a census. People can provide misleading of incorrect information with impunity. What is going to happen now is far superior.
2. One thing the brouhaha over the citizenship question's inclusion in the census achieved is to expose the Democrats on the issue. Now the whole nation knows Democrats will go to great lengths to keep us in the dark about exactly how many illegal aliens are in the U.S.
3. Regardless, by issuing an executive order to collect this information from the agencies, Trump has set in motion something that is far better than what would have been achieved through the census question.
4. Had Trump issued such an executive order without the fracas over the census, he would have caused a nasty uproar from the opponents, who would have raised all kinds of questions about his motives and such.
5. As it stands now, media cannot raise alarm about the EO. The nation understands how it came to be. And MSM+Democrats can merrily focus on Trump's defeat and their own victory on the census question, while being impotent to do anything about having handed him a bigger victory.
6. You see the best way to get an accurate picture of how many illegal and legal non-citizens there are in the U.S. was always through the proper integration and normalization of data already available to the various agencies of govt.
7. Various govt agencies have an unbelievable amount of data on all residents in the country, but by law or lack-of-will and/or due to turf issues, they do not share data among the agencies. In some ways it protects the citizens and in other ways it hampers the govt efficiency.
8. Besides, it's nobody's job in the govt to cross-tabulate data across agencies and clean it up. President's executive order takes care of both the problems.
9. EO makes it a job of the Commerce Department to collect and collate all the requisite information from the various agencies to produce accurate information on citizens, legal non-citizens, and illegal non-citizens. It also makes it incumbent upon the agencies to provide data.
10. This is not rocket science. IRS knows exactly who filed a tax return and can produce counts down to the zip codes. Same with Social Security Administration. Department of Health and Human Services also has all kinds of information. How about Department of Labor? And so on.
11. All that was needed to do the job was the will and a charter. And now the public understands what/who/where the hurdles are. The path has been cleared to finally get some accurate information. Godspeed!

MSM+Dems: You won, Trump lost. Congrats! Have a good one!

The End
*or incorrect
P.S. If the citizenship question wasn't all that important to be on the census, why did Obama take it off and why did Democrats fight so hard to keep it off? Here's the answer. Democrats were afraid of under-counts that would cause them to lose seats.
