I do not doubt that feeding people what they want instead of the news is an effective traffic strategy. But we should all be aware that that's what Fox does.

On the micro level, Trump's racist tweets attacking Democratic congresswomen were all but ripped directly from Tucker Carlson transcripts, and Fox's favorable response gave him the green light to continue the offensive.
On the macro level, Fox's yearslong spiral of bigoted conspiracy theories, and constant fearmongering about the dangers to the public wrought by Muslims and immigrants, along with its promotion of Trump's birtherism, set the stage for his political rise.

The Russian conspiracy theory was invented by the Clinton campaign. It was used as a pretext for spying on Trump associates. And then became an argument for invalidating the results of the 2016 election.
And while the Republicans and Democrats tore each other apart over Russiagate, Hillary Clinton sipped her chardonnays and spent the evenings cackling madly at the TV while watching Washington D.C. burn.
