Douglas was there to shoot a film but decided to spend his off hours interviewing former supporters of Adolf Hitler. Douglas wasn't angry or seeking revenge (Douglas is of Russian Jewish descent) . He simply wanted to understand how Hitler had convinced so many ppl to go along...
Not a single one of the (many) Germans Douglas spoke to would admit to having supported Hitler. Every single one of them knew another German--a coworker, a neighbor, a classmate, even family members--who had. But they NEVER implicated themselves...
Thing is, back in the 50's, there was no such thing as social media, smartphones, or even the internet. For that reason alone, an embarrassed former Nazi (especially one not charged w/ war crimes) could simply pretend that they had never been involved, that they'd resisted...
And there was virtually impossible to find out if they were lying...
You Trump supporters aren't going to have it so easy....
You see, once something hits the internet, it basically lingers in the universe forever. And that's assuming that no one used a smartphone to screenshot your tweets, FB posts, or text messages...
That said, you're not going to be able to blend back into the background when Trump inevitably meets his downfall. Your tweets, FB posts, media appearances, and press releases will all indict you. And you won't be able to deny, minimize, or live it down...
Do you REALLY want your great-great-great-great grandchildren to know that you supported an openly racist, openly xenophobic, openly misogynistic political figure? A political figure that needlessly ripped apart immigrant families? A political figure who has been...
Credibly accused of sexual assault/rape by TWO DOZEN women?...
The whole world is watching. And no one will forget that you chose to prop up and defend @realDonaldTrump....
So please think about it before you tweet anything else about your support of Trump. You're making yourself look bad and damaging your legacy.
