#Cubs Prospect Thread: 2B Chase Strumpf
The Cubs 2nd round pick this year. Strumpf struggled early in his final collegiate season, which likely cost him chance at 2st round, before finishing strong. He's been an XBH machine since turning pro.

Relies on compact swing and a discerning eye at the plate. Can pull his hands inside, and possesses good barrel control. Capable of going with pitches the other way and back up the middle. Will foul off pitches and rarely chase so he's a tough out.

Plenty of pull power, especially on pitches elevated in the zone. Not sure if he has the raw strength or swing to drive pitches and do a lot of damage to opposite field. Still has room to add size on his frame though.

Defensively, his arm is nothing special and is best suited for 2B. I don't have a big sample to go off, but his range, hands, athleticism seem adequate for position. I still need to see more on his transfers. His bat will be his calling card though.

I charted 3 G, 1 was bad (0-5, 4 K), 2 were good (6-9, 2 2B, HR, HBP).
In all, he saw 69 pitches (an impressive 4.6 P/PA).
Strumpf put 9 balls in play, fouled off 19, whiffed just 4 times, took 13 strikes (showing patience on borderline pitches), and chased just once. 5/
I should clarify, even the "bad" game with 4 Ks featured a good approach. Strumpf was called out on strikes three times, and at least two, if not all three were questionable. The kind of pitched you don't want to discourage him from passing on.
