THREAD: Here’s a minor update in the 643 v. Facebook legal case, which @oliviasolon and I covered back in April. (nbcnews.com/tech/social-me…)

It’s worth noting that this case has been pending in San Mateo Co. Superior Court for over 4 years now, one of the longest in the county.
@oliviasolon Over a month ago, Judge Swope ordered 643’s CEO Ted Kramer to find new counsel for his company.

Kramer finally has: two bankruptcy lawyers who have offices in SF and Modesto.

@oliviasolon It’s worth noting that Judge Swope has a conference management conference hearing currently scheduled for Friday July 19 at 2pm PT, which I will be unable to attend.

643’s new lawyers immediately attempted to get Judge Swope taken off the case.

Prenda Law is the insane story about (now disbarred) lawyers who between 2011 and 2014 made porn films, uploaded them to Pirate Bay and other similar sites, then sued people who pirated those movies—unless they agreed to a $3,000 settlement.

Steele and his cohorts made over $6M.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg oversaw plans to consolidate the social network’s power and control competitors by treating its users’ data as a bargaining chip, while publicly proclaiming to be protecting that data, according to leaked documents.

As Facebook was giving away your data as a reward to companies that spent money on Facebook, Zuckerberg was formulating a strategy to publicly frame these moves as a way of protecting user privacy.
Facebook ultimately decided not to sell the data directly but rather to dole it out to app developers who were considered personal “friends” of Zuckerberg or who spent money on Facebook and shared their own valuable data, the documents show.
