Turing is most famous for his contribution to computer science and his “Turing test”. 👇

The other amazing aspect of his life is his role in helping winning WW2. A story depicted in the movie “The Immitation Game”.

Unfortunately, the film says close to nothing about how he broke Enigma in its nearly 2h duration 🤷‍♂️.
The brilliant @numberphile made two *fascinating* videos (ticking at several million views each) explaining how Enigma worked, and how it was broken. One single flaw made all the difference. Riveting!

To add to it, Turing developed in the process a mathematical approach to determine how long you should wait to accumulate evidence before making a choice.

Neuroscientists now use this approach to model how our brains make everyday decisions!

These achievements were classified & went tragically unrewarded as he was condemned to undergo chemical castration for a gay relationship in 1952. He died from a likely suicide in 1954, aged 41.

After his 2013 posthumous pardon, this note is a well deserved homage.
