1. My father was one of a kind. Long after he'd passed my mother told me he took us as infants to play with black children. We lived in Ferguson MO. She said he believed racism was a learned behavior. I knew one thing for certain as a kid: if I ever used a racial slur
2. he'd give me up for adoption. And he only warned me of two groups: The KKK and the John Birch Society. He never mentioned the Nazis but I figured they were included with the other two.
3. Having covered the Chinese Civil War, he was somewhat ambivalent about the Communist. I think he thought they'd eventually snap out of it. 😎
