Difference between BXP and LibDems important here - voters who think their challenger party is going to win will be harder for the leading parties to squeeze
If memory serves, a lot of UKIP voters expressed similar confidence in their party's prospects ahead of the 2015 election, and there's quite a lot of overlap between UKIP then and BXP now.
So this pattern of effects might reflect a generally high partisan optimism/lack of understanding of the electoral system among the kind of voters who back radical right/populist/anti-system options like UKIP & BXP

A long read indeed, and yet somehow nowhere in these thousands of words would readers learn that Labour's electorate is (a) majority remain (b) majority middle class, or that education, national identity and view of migration drove Brexit choices not class or economics
The group which constitutes the majority of the Lab electorate and the overwhelming majority of the Labour membership - left-liberal pro-EU graduates - is portrayed as a faction and the reader is misled into believing that the people mobilised by Corbyn were working class Leavers
Its perfectly fine to make the case for Lexit radicalism as an ideology but it is nonsense to pretend, as this article does, that it was the motivating force of Corbyn's or Labour's support. Lexiteers project their own obscure dogma onto an electorate which doesn't share it

A thread of trivia regarding Lord Hailsham, who is leading the charge against the Johnson proroguing gambit:
His father Quintin Hogg was a heriditary peer (the 2nd Viscount Hailsham) who disclaimed his peerage in 1963, then returned to the Lords as a life peer in 1970
Douglas Hogg became 3rd Viscount Hailsham in 2001 on the death of his father, because first still inherit peerages even if their dads disown them (up the aristocracy!). Hogg Jr didn't join the Lords then because most heriditay peers were chucked out in 1999
He wouldn't have minded though as he was already in the Commons, having been an MP since 1979. He carried on until 2010, after public outrage about his decision to spend taxpayers money cleaning out the moat at his country pile in the 2008 expenses scandal obliged him to bow out

Lab MPs like this are as illogical and destructive as the ERG.
Spring this year: "I want Brexit, but I won't vote for May's deal because it is too damaging"

Now: "I want Brexit and will vote for the most damaging of all possible Brexits because reasons".
This is like Stuart Lee's bit about Richard Hammond as a coward caught between two conflicting forms of cowardice. These MPs have spent months hoping the Tories would get Brexit through without their help, so they could pretend they backed it without voting for it...
...now they're running scared of voters annoyed it hasn't happened and therefore embracing a deeply damaging and chaotic outcome rather than stand up to Farage and the Brexit party and publicly state that no deal is, in fact, a lot worse than the deal they already voted down.

First off, we must thank-you all. We launched a poll on Monday expecting maybe 500 responses maximum. Instead we had a whopping three-thousand-two-hundred-and-thirty votes on our Twitter poll.

That’s ridiculous.
We asked you which party you thought had the oldest average age of MPs.

Most of you, 66%, thought it was the @Conservatives, then the @LibDems (15%), then @UKLabour (14%), with the @theSNP coming in last with (5%).

I bet the SNP are feeling fairly youthful right about now.

Some context about what's going on here. TL;DR: ICE is using Facebook records to track people down. This isn't because Facebook is doing something wrong; this is legally compelled disclosure. And it highlights some common misconceptions about corporate power. 1/
It's become common to view corporations as nearly all-powerful, especially ones as big as Google or Facebook. But it turns out that their power is *tiny* compared to that of governments.
This point was driven home to me rather forcefully at the end of 2016, when we started to ask the question of what we *could* do at Google to protect our users if, for example, the government started to round people up and ship them off. Short answer: not much.
