NJ was a Republican-drawn dummymander, and NY was a bipartisan compromise. MD was a Democratic gerrymander but not even a very aggressive one — it netted them just one more seat than a fair map would, when it would have been easily possible to kill Andy Harris' district too.
Also @TheRickWilson, lopsided districts aren't necessarily unfair and compact ones aren't necessarily fair. The classic example is #IL04, the "earmuffs" district, which is drawn the way it is not for partisan reasons but to prevent Black and Latinx neighborhoods from being split.
One more point about NJ that's worth considering @TheRickWilson — last year, Dems in the legislature were talking about a plan to constitutionally force the state to be gerrymandered. And Dem activists around the country — myself included — howled with rage until they stopped.
