This is about to be a thread to educate a CEO about Border Patrol and why people want to #CloseTheCamps and why workers are saying #WeWontBeComplicit.
I'm GRATEFUL to the @ogilvy employees who, like the #WayfairWalkout, don't want to be part of what's happening at the border. The hashtag #dontlookaway is aimed at all of us. #NoTechForICE could also be #NoPRforTheCamps
After 3 weeks of press coverage detailing how @ogilvy recruits for the border patrol agency running the camps, @jseifert79, the CEO, told workers raising concerns that "I don’t have enough information to indict this [organization]."

My goal, @jseifert79, is that this will provide you with enough information.
Just Yesterday, Border Patrol agents at O'Hare airport in Chicago held 3 US citizens captive trying to set a trap to detain their undocumented mother. chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/…
Two weeks ago, it was exposed that HALF of all border patrol agents were in a secret facebook group that joked about the death of people migrating and posted sexually violent images of members of Congress.

Since @ogilvy is recruiting for Border Patrol, one has to ask if that's the culture of an agency that you'd promote. Some bad apples? No. 9,000+ agents INCLUDING the Border Patrol Chief were members: theintercept.com/2019/07/12/bor…
Deeply troubling, it isn't just talk of violence. Migrant children in Yuma, AZ and in multiple facilities are being sexually assaulted by guards.

In your call, you said, "it’s overwhelmed with the challenges it faces and it’s not performing well." I ask you to read this 15 year old's account and reduce it to being overwhelmed. thinkprogress.org/teenage-migran…
One agent who served in McAllen, TX says "jail" is not a strong enough word for how they are treating people.

The term has been debated, but many people, including Holocaust survivors see what Border Patrol is doing as constructing concentration camps. That's why @ogilvy employees are rightly upset that the agency is spinning for BP.

This is audio leaked from a border patrol facility. You hear children sobbing for their parents and you hear Border Patrol agents joking about the 'orchestra.'

glamour.com/story/listen-a…
The audio of crying children was released on June 19, 2018. That's four days after @ogilvy took a $4M contract with Border Patrol.

It was also the height of the #FamiliesBelongTogether protests last year that culminated with 700 protests around the country on June 30th
Now some individual cases, @jseifert79. Last December, courts convicted this border patrol agent of being a serial killer. On separate occasions, he shot four women in the head and left their bodies along the roadside in Texas.

theguardian.com/us-news/2018/d…
In this case, a 39 year old border patrol agent texted colleagues begging Trump to "let him take the gloves off" so he could target "mindless murdering savages." That's before he purposefully ran over a person walking in the desert with his truck.

buzzfeednews.com/article/juliar…
Going back further, the case of Jose Antonio still hurts. He was a 16 year old kid. He was shot 10 times by Border Patrol. He was in his own country of Mexico at the time. They shot live bullets into a kid in another country.

buzzfeednews.com/article/salvad…
A former border patrol agent interviewed with @theintercept last Fall and explained these isolated incidents aren't isolated, they're built in to the DNA of the agency now.

He was reprimanded for offering a .4 year old water.

theintercept.com/2018/09/20/bor…
In fact, good samaritans like volunteers at the group @NoMoreDeaths make it their mission to leave water in the most dangerous areas of the desert in hopes of preventing someone from dying.

Border Patrol? Routinely slashes the water jugs left out. theguardian.com/us-news/2018/j…
Border Patrol doesn't just aim for people to die in the desert. You probably know, because the news has been unavoidable, that children - six as of May - are dying in Border Patrol custody. Reports of neglect are rampant.
They're not alone. @SBCCoalition has been tracking "deaths by border patrol" since 2010. Their site lists 10 for 2019 alone. southernborder.org/deaths_by_bord…
The mistreatment isn't JUST directed at people migrating. When a whistleblower exposed that Border Patrol agents in Detroit were targeting Black drivers for illegal searches, that agent was reprimanded by superiors. govexec.com/management/201…
What I sincerely hope, @jseifert79, @ogilvy, @ogilvymx is that this gives you "enough information." Back in 2011, @nomoredeaths released a report - based on 3 years of compiled research - called "Culture of Cruelty."

PR is a powerful tool and we've seen it used for good and for evil in the world. @ogilvy employees raising concerns about doing #PRforTheCamps should be rewarded not told to leave the company.
May this be the beginning or continuation of a conversation on what #dontlookaway means for public relations companies, what is our responsibility for our client's products, and what #csr in advertising looks like.
A top client for @ogilvymx, @aeremexico, has a certain view of borders. I'm hoping this thread helps @ogilvy's US branch to better understand what its spinning.
* @Aeromexico.
Sorry for typo.
I should add, employees learned their company was doing #PRforTheCamps thanks to a tweet from @RAICESTEXAS.
