There is an old saying out there: "Never underestimate your opponent". However, the GOP tends to do the opposite and it's just as much a problem. One should never overestimate their opposition either. Overestimating is just as bad from a strategic stand point.
It stops you from attacking when you should. It causes you to discard plans & strategies that you should implement. It causes you to often suffer a defeat while you are winning. It makes you think as losers instead of winners. It causes a "muh we are all doomed" type of thinking
I believe this is one reason why Trump continues to win. He doesn't overestimate his opposition. His automatic stance is not to run away and cower in fear. Now, if only we can get the "muh we are all doomed" crowd to understand this point.
