stop driving across the downtown mall. just stop doing it. the city should close the crossings. they won’t do it because they’re cowardly, callous, and ineffective, but you can just stop driving down those cross streets.
i’ve lived in charlottesville for twelve years. i’ve lived and worked downtown for most of that time. i have driven across the mall exactly twice in my entire life. you don’t have to do it. just stop doing it.
for the second time this summer, someone i yelled at for driving their car across the mall while pedestrians were present has exited their vehicle and physically confronted me.
it is dangerous to put vehicles in a pedestrian walkway. it always has been and always will be. this doesn’t even have anything to do with the act of domestic terrorism in which a woman was killed on one of those crossings. it’s just a shitty place to have cars.
