B/c I haven't been controversial enough this morning, I want to add this thought:

Male church leaders who fixate on protecting their manhood will struggle to protect women & children in their congregations. Why? They've already missed the point of manhood.
In the Scripture, the call of manhood is to "guard & keep"--to husbandry. This does not mean that women aren't strong (ahem, ennegram 8 here) but that male embodiment partners w/ female embodiment in a unique way.
If, as a man, you think your masculine strength has been given to you to protect yourself & other men, you've completely missed the point. Your strength is given to you to safeguard those under your care & create a culture in which they can flourish.
And particularly if you believe that church eldership is reserved for men, understand that this means, first & foremost, using your manhood to protect & defend the household of God so that it might bring life to the world.
The fight was never the goal. Life & health & wholeness is.
