I'll tell you why the no deal posturing is a political mistake. Because the ERG will now think they've been promised it.
This no deal is all bluff as far as Johnson is concerned. But dozens of his own MPs want that for real.

We'll go into an election with the Tories split right through. Some want no deal, most don't. Can't have two manifestos. What does he do? Brexit or remain, either way he splits the party and loses the election.
The Tories will do the only thing they can do, and put a second referendum in their manifesto, and let the country decide it once and for all.
That is exactly what's going to happen. A general election, the Tories offering a second referendum, and labour has to follow suit or lose, and we get another referendum next year, and we stay in Europe.
