The shooter had been dead for two hours and twenty-four minutes when he tweeted this.
There was still public confusion and ambiguity when Trump tweeted, but what he tweeted was false and likely to cause unfounded panic among festival attendees and their loved ones.
And one wonders, of course, the source of the "reports" he was referring to. Had he been briefed? Or was he just ... watching television and tweeting about whatever was on the screen?
Trump getting this wrong a small thing, of course, compared to his other sins. But it's a reminder that in an acute national or international crisis, there's a good chance that he will be tweeting through it, and tweeting falsehoods.
It's not just that he's uninterested in the presidency as a job. It's that more than halfway through his term he has so little idea what that job entails, or what accrues to him as a result of it.
Imagine being the president and thinking that the way to get brought up to date on a news story was to turn on the television.
