8 years ago today I was sitting at @MozartsCoffee in Austin, Texas while I was working for @GovernorPerry when I got the call that I had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I remember asking if that was the “good kind,” or the “bad kind.” (1/x)
2 weeks later, I began Chemo plus a trial drug called Brentuximab at @MDAndersonNews, & had treatment for 5 months. I had a 4 month old daughter and a 2 year old son. My wife took the brunt of everything, as is often the case for those fighting illness. (2/x)
I am immeasurably blessed and thankful to be a survivor. This reality informs much of my policy views - including wanting every American to have the ability to get the best healthCARE possible. But it also colors my perspective on the day-to-day stupidity of politics. (3/x)
I try to wake up every day and focus not on twitter or the media’s commentary on some recent comment... but rather on preserving this great Republic for our children. I believe that requires that we #DoWhatWeSaid and limit government to its basic, limited function... (4/x)
...balance the budget, and limit spending... actually secure our border and defend sovereignty, make sure our military is used strongly but sparingly with a strong mission and fully equipped, restore healthcare freedom for all, and then get the hell out of the way... (5/x)
So forgive me if I don’t respond to stupid tweets today, comment on the the palace intrigue of whatever’s going on in the Texas State Capitol, or whoever has decided to retire from Congress. Because let me be clear - none of that matters to me in the slightest bit... (6/x)
All that matters to me is that my family and I are secure and able to live free, to serve God, and to exercise our God-given rights. I will fight every day for as long as I live to secure those rights and to live free. Everything else is noise. (7/7) #LiveFreeOrDie
