My father brought a box of Romeo y Julietas. I made cookies from almonds and this ripe fruit I found on the tree outside the kitchen. I still haven't figured out what it's called; it was like a cross between a plum and a cherry. We had the best family vacation ever.
I asked the distillers what kind of fruit tree it was--expecting a long, learned lecture about the history of the tree and its particularity to the terroir--but they shrugged and said, "No idea. Looks like a cross between a plum and a cherry."
Anyway, if you mix egg whites (beaten to stiff peaks), almond flour, tons of sugar, and armagnac; then top them with that strange fruit, you get something as good as a Heath bar.
(Line a baking pan with kitchen paper; shape the batter, which should be thick, into ovals, bake at 320 celsius for about 20 minutes, until golden. You have to let them cool just a bit before eating them or they'll fall apart.)
I invented this recipe. It goes perfectly with a glass of bas armagnac and a really well-slobbered-up Romeo y Julieta.
Correction: 320 Fahrenheit.

I hope no one rushed off to bake these based on that mistake.
