Just now: More than a dozen HK protesters stand outside the arrival hall in the Hong Kong airport to chant slogans and repeat their five demands. “On strike, free Hong Kong!”
They have moved to line either side of the hallway from the arrival halls to the Airport Express
Earlier: Sarah Lau, 23, and Charlotte Lau, 16, said they brought homemade boarding passes to hand out to tell tourists why there was a city wide strike in HK and to thank HKers for striking today. “We are not stopping until we hear answers.”
Up close: “Visitors beware: Hong Kong anarchy, now police turns violent.” #antiELAB
A close-up of the boarding passes they are handing out to tourists, which invite them to join the strike - with the five demands listed as the destination.
“香港人加油 Hong Kong add oil!”
Roughly 40 people here chanting slogans. A man walked by yelling at the protesters for not supporting their country, and they drowned him out with: “香港人加油!”
More black-clad protesters filling in, so the count is up to around 60 people outside the arrival halls. Many curious bystanders lining the balconies to watch.
Protesters also pushing luggage trolleys around the arrivals area with multilingual posters, telling visitors to the city that Hong Kong is sick and is seeking to “remove the tumors in her constitutional system.” QR code leads to video about Yuen Long.
Some reactions from passersby: some fully support their actions & are themselves on strike today. Others are curious/confused about the protest motivations. Mainland Chinese man next to me, whispering: “if this was in the mainland, they would have been taken away already.”
Left: ~120 now unfurling yellow 返送中 anti-extradition banners, including ones that say 罷工罷課罷市 to reference today’s strike. Right: screen showing cancelled/delay flights from today’s strike
“Free Hong Kong” still going strong
As police fire more tear gas at Wong Tai Sin, the peaceful protesters in Hong Kong arrange post-it notes on the floor by the arrival hall: “Hong Kong is not safe. Tear gas rubber bullets fired everywhere.”
