It's new EB time, and since some people are getting a bit carried around with the results, let's look at them in some more detail than can fit in one tweet

1/
Overall trust is tracking up, both for EU and MS, but only back up to pre-crisis levels

2/
From the previous EB, there's a modest rise in trust across EU, but some big variation: big rise in ES (from low base), more margin-of-error moves down in UK/DE

Not unequivocal bump up

3/
Likewise on image, trend is back up, but only to pre-crisis figures, which weren't that amazing

4/
Again, lots of MS variation, mostly flip-flops -/+ (except RO). Note that biggest drop was UK (possibly in a 'pox on all their houses' move)

5/
Worth noting that pre-crisis, mvt was usually from -ve to/from neutral, or +ve to/from neutral, so might expect similar now, i.e. it's one thing to stop disliking the EU, another to start liking it. Neutral is still substantial reservoir of people who could tip back to -ve

6/
One more +ve area is whether voice counts. Last EB saw 1st net +ve figures for a very long time, and this round confirms that trend.

However, still a lot of red in a lot of MS (and UK far from the worst case)

7/
A couple of interesting points on 'most important issues'

Immigration crisis of 2015 has abated, but still the most cited issue for EU

8/
Fairly consistent across MS, but will note that UK is one of only 7 MS where immigration isn't #1 issue for EU action

9/
But maybe that's because it's seen as the #1 issue for national action?

Well, no, actually

10/
Much more mixed picture here across MS, with economic problems forming a clear cluster.

Note that UK concern on crime is matched only in SE & HR

And that UK concern about the 'economic situation' is in line w EU average

11/
Sadly, no MS breakdown on economic expectations, but at EU level these are as 6mths ago

12/
Overall, EB suggests much of the ground lost during the crisis has been recovered, but that doesn't mean substantial issues of input and output legitimacy don't still remain in place
