JUST IN: Newly released records from @PBCountySheriff show Jeffrey Epstein qualified for work release under a 2007 policy in place at the time, despite his prostitution crimes and convicted sex offender status. bit.ly/2MIO9Xh @WPTV @WPTVContact5 #Contact5
Being a “convicted sex offender” didn’t exclude inmates from the work release program until 2011, when @PBCountySheriff added that language to their work released policy. bit.ly/2MIO9Xh @WPTV @WPTVContact5
PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera told @WPTVContact5 last month that sex offenders aren’t eligible for work release, but Epstein qualified for the program because he wasn’t a *registered* sex offender. bit.ly/2MIO9Xh
However, a review of the 2007 work release policy (the active work release policy during Epstein’s incarceration) shows sex offenders aren’t even mentioned. Period. bit.ly/2MIO9Xh
PBSO’s current work release policy is under review by the Criminal Justice Commission, at the request of Sheriff @RicBradshaw himself. But that’s really the only thing the commission can do: review the current policy. bit.ly/2MIO9Xh @WPTV
According to their exec. dir., the CJC is *not* an investigating agency. They are a research and analysis group of community stakeholders. They can only make recommendations. And Bradshaw happens to be one of their 32 board members. bit.ly/2MIO9Xh @WPTV @WPTVContact5
