As a reminder, the term "fake news" did not originally meant "false news" or "news that make me look bad".

It designated fake news outlets: websites and social media accounts posing as fake US media organizations, waging a war of propaganda.
Which is why fake news detection is actually a trivial problem (which social media has repeatedly refused to solve), similar to spam detection. No dilemma about the veracity of a given statement. Just need to check if the "Iowa Daily Post" or "GBCNews" are real, or made-in-Russia
