I raised #RichardBest, killed by a white supremacist in Portland, #RichardCollins, killed in MD, the bombing if a mosque in Minnesota - all in the months before #Charlottesville. The decorous effort to avoid confronting this danger honestly has only resulted in more violence.
I spoke about the President’s “coterie” - Bannon, Gorka, Miller. His AG, Jeff Sessions. A who’s who of white supremacists. It has been plain from the beginning who the President is & that he is unwilling to stand against this threat. Indeed he has stoked it w/rhetoric & policies.
In Oct 2018, @NAACP_LDF, along w/other national civil rights orgs wrote a letter to AG Sessions demanding a DOJ plan to address the rise in hate crimes. naacpldf.org/wp-content/upl… No response from Sessions. Barr was confirmed w/no commitment to address violent white supremacy.
Members of Congress, most MSM outlets & pundits, law enforcement have failed to forthrightly acknowledge this threat. Now there’s the effort to waste more time asking, “is Trump a white supremacist?,” rather than demanding a plan to address this threat.
Apply consistent pressure to AG Barr; FBI Director Wray, local law enforcement, every Member of Congress, Pres candidates. Incessantly demand their plan. Demand that online platforms disable the use of their platforms for recruitment & radicalization. civilrights.org/2019/08/09/civ…
Identify white supremacy - whether it’s in voter suppression schemes, segregation policies, or immigration policies. White supremacy is not just physical violence & ugly marches. Have the courage to recognize its pervasiveness in policies & practices. And work to end it.
