Today is the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. It’s hard to hear the Boomer nostalgia for that moment, in such stark contrast to the realities of world they’re handing down to us.
Wow, the generation that loves to tell my generation about all the ways we're not doing enough, and all the things we're ruining really doesn't like it when you point out all the ways their generation is responsible for that.
I've got science to do today, so this is the last I'm going to say on this for now: fixing a broken system isn't a generational right of passage. The fact is, we grew up in a system with Boomers in power, who Boomers disproportionately fund and vote in, to this day.
This system is actively undermining many of the the good things that generation fought for (women's rights, civil and reproductive rights, environmental protections). Meanwhile, they pulled up the ladder behind them and made the game harder. I'd like to see them acknowledge that.
It’s really interesting to see how Baby Boomers are projecting on this tweet. Apparently it’s whining to point out structural, social, and economic injustice.

But it was okay when they did it in the 1960’s?
My parents are/were Boomers. I respect the the amazing Boomers who helped improve the world. I am a ride-or-die @ewarren fan.

At the same time, collectively, Boomers voted for people and policies that pulled the ladder up behind them.

I’m allowed to be angry about that.
@ewarren I think we just want to be seen, you know? Even my own dad doesn't understand that he was able to succeed because the rules were different: affordable college, lower costs of living. Instead, we're told we're lazy, entitled, whiners, we're killing businesses, etc.
@ewarren I'll end by saying voter turnout in 2016 was only 20% for the 18-29 crowd. But it jumped to 35% in 2018. For ages 30-44, it jumped from 35% to 49%. We're still the lowest of any age group, though. That means showing up in 2020 can make a disproportionate impact. Let's do this.
