By definition, asylum seekers almost always have to arrive illegally. Let them come, assess their claims, *then* decide if they should be sent back. This is dangerous populism that flouts our international responsibilities.
As a reminder, there is no obligation anywhere in international law to seek refuge in the first safe country you arrive in. If someone wants to seek asylum here, they have every right to do so.
The alternative, given our geographic location, is that we now reject all asylum seekers automatically - if this is government policy then let them say it loudly so everyone can judge the merits of this authoritarian Nationalism that rips up our international commitments
