can anyone find really **any** campaign contributor who has ever been “or worsed” by anyone? Or frankly even harassed? this isn’t really my thing. but we have a system of largely unconstrained political giving on theory that in politics money is speech.
2/ Yet speech is by every definition **inherently, definitionally public**. That is what speech is. Yet this is an increasing demand of the right. The right to contribute money without limitation but also the right to do it secretly.
3/ As I said, speech is inherently public. But even the premise here is bogus. The idea that anyone is being endangered is just baseless. And even public shaming is all but nonexistent. That may happen with mega-givers: the Kochs et al. But in most cases that operate outside ...
4/ the disclosure framework altogether - hard money. So it doesn’t even apply to them. One more time: the right to finance campaigns is a speech right and speech is INHERENTLY public. A right to secret speech is a constitutional absurdity.
