Before you say "they don't know what they're talking about", they are the ones who will be introducing those customs formalities. So they are talking about what they themselves will do. You literally can't get a more first-hand source of information than that!
And this from the site's FAQ was interesting. If Brexit's postponed, it only delays the problem. But if it's cancelled none of the new red tape will be needed (of course they'll be out the sunk costs of preparations).

What's to stop the following?
1. MPs pass bill tomorrow they think will mean Boris Johnson has to ask for A50 extension by October 19.
2. Having secured that, they give him his election for October 14.
3. Parliament prorogued Monday next week. Late Monday BJ moves election date.
He moves it so that the end of prorogation runs into the dissolution period without a break (dissolution: 25 working days before a GE)
4. 19 October arrives. BJ does nothing.
5. MPs beyond incandescent but Parliament isn't sitting until the GE, now on the other side of Brexit Day
6. Only recourse might be the courts. But can they really reach a ruling between October 20-31 in the middle of a General Election. It will go all the way to the Supreme Court and maybe the ECJ
7. If we get to 31 October for *any* reason, we're out out. Game over.

Looking at the mass outbreak of rationality across the HOC (to an extent - it's all relative) I wonder if Brexit having forced antagonists to work together, properly together, has made them realise that they have much more in common than with the frootloops steering the ship.
(I don't mean their politics or world views.) I just mean they've been forced to spend time with each other & really listen. And they now understand it's possible to have real dialogue with people you fundamentally disagree with on many things. They're not the country wreckers.
It's slim pickings, but that may turn out to be the only positive that comes out of Brexit.

Even wilder thought: Boris Johnson gets so desperate he offers Nigel Farage a merger. Renames the party the "Conservative and Brexit Party".

Likelihood: slim to none.
Hair-raising potential: infinite.
Logic: NF will never ever go away. UKIP and now the BP will keep harming the Tories for so long as Brexit persists (which we know will be years and years) even if their power wanes after Brexit Day. And euroscepticism will always be the Tory disease. Throw it all in the mincer...
And NF said this morning on #r4today that the Brexit Party would get out of the way if Boris Johnson pivots straight for no deal. So there are cosying up noises on both sides.

Some like the #AAC claim that it would be sufficient to use existing systems and processes to solve the NI border. All you would need is to adapt them slightly. Which doesn't seem to be a big deal (I'm not going to go into detail here on the AAC plan-just focusing on systems) /2

Thread on #customs transit. Why it isn’t a #Brexit silver bullet and why proposals for NI border relying solely on transit would make it one of the most restrictive borders out there (even if we managed to get to no infrastructure). Might get long /1
Transit is an existing customs procedure. Allows to move customs formalities away from the border and only scan a barcode when passing the border. In some cases transit can start or end at company’s own premises. (Bit more on it here) /2

1. For me it's really not worth getting worked up about the customs union in May's deal. My main objection to it is that it's overkill for the very little it actually solves. That, though, is no reason to reject the deal. #Brexit thread
2. Supposing we are part of a customs union, yes the EU can negotiate preferential access to UK markets in terms of tariffs. Technically the other country doesn't have to reciprocate, but in most cases they will - because there is more to trade than tariffs.
3. In international relations, reciprocality is the norm, and where we don't find it, they can, to coin a phrase, go to the "back of the queue". Being free of the single market means we can grant certain regulatory preferences if we so wish.
