The climate town hall brings up a strange well of sadness in me. It's great it's happening but I've felt intuitively since small how crucial it is to take care of this planet. That it is, for a single moment, a matter of politics is still fundamentally odd to me.
I suppose I should consider it good Dem candidates are competing for which one would take the best care of this spectacular & irreplaceable place we all live. I should be happy this is even a thing right now. But I just feel sad. Why is stewardship of the place we live an issue.
How disappointing and predictable that women are, perhaps, going to being admitted to the true halls of power precisely at the moment the house most needs cleaning.

When white men like Kavanaugh lie, they're still telling a larger truth: not only will I get away with it, I will be rewarded. Things won't really change until _that_ does.
Tweets aside, the NYT story does an excellent job of putting Kavanaugh's behavior in a larger context of aggression by the wealthy toward the "insufficiently rich." Our culture doesn't just consider the kind of thing Kavanaugh did a rite of passage. It's also a display of status.
Deborah Ramirez's ability to talk about the "good to come" is beyond moving to me. It makes me feel like working hard to help make sure her prediction comes true.

Jeff Bezos, who just cut the medical benefits of 1900 Whole Foods workers, is also a member of Business Roundtable (@roundtablepnw) an organization of ~200 CEOs that recently released this statement, entitled "Our Commitment." opportunity.businessroundtable.org/ourcommitment/
@roundtablepnw .@JeffBezos when you & 180 other @roundtablepnw CEOs said last month "not enough is being done for workers to adjust to the rapid pace of change in the economy," did you mean your decision today to cut medical for 1,900 @WholeFoods workers? Is that your plan to help them adjust?

It was a remarkable night of substantive conversation with candidates about climate, regularly reinforcing the IPCC’s findings that we need to cut emissions in half by 2030 and by 100% by 2050. It was by far the most time devoted to climate, and the candidates came to play. /3

A 27 year old doctoral candidate from Northwestern University - scientists at Exxon knew 40 years ago fossil fuels would destabilize the planet. Their trade/industry orgs have waged a decades long campaign of lying to public about the science and now it threatens the human race.
Biden signed no fossil fuel money pledge,but "how can Biden be trusted to hold them accountable for crimes against humanity when tomorrow you are holding a high dollar fundraiser hosted by Andrew Goldman a fossil fuel executive"
Biden immediately says he is not. Andrew Goldman provides Canadian gas to parts of Asia as head of Western LNG.

No, Wolf, there will not be any "tipping point" at 1.5 degrees. Nothing sudden or different will happen in 11 years. That's just the point at which scientists believe dangerous/catastrophic change effectively becomes unavoidable.

Connor has the sudden thought, as Hank's hands hover uncertainly over the open panel on his inner thigh, that he may not have thought this through correctly. He'd considered it far too many times, preconstructing various outcomes, without taking his own feelings into account.
He's used to considering the potential feelings of others. His own feelings, though, are more uncertain and confusing; he hadn't truly wondered what it might feel like to have Hank's hands inside him until the moment before it happens, when it's too late to reconsider.
It's this, more than any worry or admonishments from Hank, that makes Connor wish he'd been more careful earlier, to prevent putting him in this situation in the first place.
