As Mexico's new President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) recently delivered his first annual report, I believe AP provided a fairly accurate report (surprisingly) about how things are going for him so far. Remember there are several political factions

at work in Mexico. There is the PRI political party that dominated politics in the country for a very long time. The PRI is well funded and considered completely corrupt by virtually everyone who follows Mexican politics. Mexico has a fairly new President,

Lopez Obrador, who won the election with his MORENA political party.

Lopez Obrador has been around Mexican politics for a long time and is considered a champion of the working class, somewhat of a populist. So far his popularity remains high.

In case anyone is interested to know my opinion about AMLO, I view him with a bit of healthy skepticism and optimism at this point. This may sound like a horrible analogy but I view him as a mash-up of Jimmy Carter and Rand Paul, if such thing were possible. I know, what an image
Anyways, what is amazing about AMLO is he seems like he may be taking steps to round up the corrupt Mexican deep state (Mexicans call them the old 'dinosaur politicians') which is really surprising. Many headlines have been coming out of Mexico in recent weeks about housecleaning
that has been promised by other Presidents there in the past such as Vicente Fox but were never fulfilled. When I write these threads, a bunch of people comment and point out potential problems and imperfections and I understand that. However it's fair to say, the fact that
AMLO won the election not year and not one of the corrupt PRI political party figures is probably on par with the potential disaster that many feel was avoided in the most recent U.S. elections, if you know what I mean. I'm sure you do.
