An impeachment investigation is absolutely warranted in light of the extraordinary allegations about President Trump's dealings with Ukraine. If true, the president's conduct may have not only violated criminal laws but transcended into the realm of high crimes and misdemeanors.
Congress has a duty to uncover the truth and hold the president accountable, along with anyone inside or outside of government who has abetted these transgressions.
If the White House continues to engage in unprecedented blanket obstruction of every investigation, Congress should treat that as an independent basis for constitutional accountability. Lawlessness and impunity are unacceptable alternatives.

This strikes me as something that could be useful to prosecutors who will need to prove that Trump's potential campaign finance violations in the Stormy Daniels hush money case were "knowing and willful"
That is, it's pretty reasonable to argue that someone who has had to defend themselves against past allegations of campaign finance misdeeds learned something about the finer details of the law in the process
And to be clear, this is just one of several examples that lend credence to the idea that Trump has a pretty good understanding of campaign finance laws: Trump was a major political donor, who formed multiple presidential exploratory committees
