I taught a study abroad program in Galway from January to May of 2012, about a year after Obama had been there. I can't tell you how many people, upon finding out I was American, wanted to rave to me about President Obama.
Where's the reporting on the welcome that Mike Pence has received from the Irish people? The descendant of Irish immigrants returned home...what a great story! Would love to see the pictures of his glorious homecoming.

Given how late we are in the growing season, I think this might be the last straw.
That’s so bad, I don’t think it even rates as a dad joke. Like, maybe a great-uncle joke, or a third cousin joke, twice removed.
On second thought, the correct term for this is a “fodder joke.” That was a fodder joke. I’ll show myself out now.

Great essay on the long shadow the racist fake science of eugenics has cast across American history, especially its immigration policy.
White Americans have a terrible habit of associating racist ideas with “hicks.” Eugenics was ubiquitous in the early 20th century, at home at Princeton and the country club, and slathered across the pages of Good Housekeeping.
“Why are American Historians so anti-Trump?” I’m often asked. One reason is that his rhetoric crudely manifests these deeply rooted, racist ideas. If your ear is tuned to hear it, it’s impossible to miss. And if you know where such ideas have always led, it’s hard not to recoil.

I suppose we can safely say that now #TheFrighteners have been so successfully and publicly put on a certain sector their combined angst will spew a diarrhoea of spin & warp whilst trying to use THAT VERY THING to generate $£Es Some with automated AdTech software already bought.
2/ Some bought by gormless companies, by mistake, some in full knowledge or partial knowledge of what it could do. It will be interesting as time goes on to see who apparently DIDN'T CARE about the likely instigation of its more negative 'dark' capabilities looking to 'side-step'
3/ or even 'wrong-foot' Irish & EU regulation standards, & possibly law. This too is a kind of #climatechange & #ClimateAction in itself, a would be mammoth untouchable iceberg of 'dominion' & 'control' being melted out into an ocean of citizens' scrutiny & advancement for change
