The foolishness of inviting the Taliban to Camp David cannot be overstated. Not only are they terrorists but the deal we are headed toward will not be one that Trump can tout. It will be, all signs indicated, damn near a surrender after 18 years of war. The problem is...
...Trump doesn't understand any of this. He sees everything in terms of TV stunts, surprise twists to push ratings. Meanwhile, nearly every major deal he has sought worldwide has gone nowhere or floundered.
In the Mideast, the phantom peace plan has been an embarrassment from the start and is just getting worse. And the Iran fiasco also gets worse with each passing day. (See also NK. Trump is not only not a master of the art of the deal, he's one of diplomacy's worst ever.)

Walked around the Acropolis today. It was teaming w/ tourists, smoking, bumping into each other, posing w/ selfie-sticks, reading emails. In a way they were an essential part of the experience--a reminder that greatness survives as much or more in spite of us than because of us.
It was remarkable as we looked around and noted that democracy was invented over on that platform over there and drama was invented on that stage below us and on that rock St. Paul helped create Christianity.
And then we saw a frieze that depicted the battle of Marathon and saw where Alexander mounted conquered Persian shields and saw the damage created by Romans, Venetians, the Ottomans, the British and neglect.

What is happening in the UK right now is a very important story for the US. Not just because our most important ally is in the midst of a serious constitutional crisis and on the verge of one of the great mistakes in its history (Brexit).
It's also important because our countries and leaders have historically been so close and the simultaneous and rapid decay of democratic standards in both of them is a troubling and linked phenomenon. One that will deeply damage the western alliance.
The same people helped engineer the extraordinary crises we see in both countries. They say people with the same sponsors and the same goals. Putin may be smiling but no patriotic American or UK citizen should be. It's worrying and likely to get worse before it gets better.
