Many drug traffickers in South Africa are also South Africans, Serbians, Lebanese, Italian. The problem is not the identity of the drug traffickers, but rather the failure of this minister's government to govern.

If SARS, customs officials and the police did their work we would not have a drug problem. If senior officials including politicians in the ruling party were not corrupt we would not have a drug problem.
If we did not have a neoliberal economy in which everything is for sale we would not have a drug problem.

Once upon a time we had elevated levels of revolutionary consciousness in this country, but because we did not act to realize its material potential it fizzled out to be replaced by a false national chauvinism that will soon disintegrate into narrow tribalism.
What value does rampaging through the CBD and attacking random fellow Africans bring?

Why do we have a drug problem in South Africa? We have a drug problem because we have massive unemployment and people are seeking escape in either fringe religions or drugs.
Why do we have unemployment? We have unemployment because we have a massively concentrated monopolized economy which has no room for new entrants and cannot create new jobs. Why can the monopolistic economy not create jobs? Because it is based on mining and agribusiness.

On the passing of Robert Mugabe.

Julie and I landed in Harare on 13 January 1983. It was to be our home for the almost the next decade. My daughters Roxanne and Rosa were born there in Parirenyatwa public hospital.

It was eerie because just days before the Apartheid regime began destabilising Zimbabwe by blowing up the fuel pipeline between the Mozambican port city of Beira and Harare. The plane landed in a city in which nothing moved, no busses, no cars, no noise.
Robert Mugabe and ZANU came to power in 1980.

The new government dramatically reduced military spending and massively increased health and education spending, building thousands of schools and clinics across the country, and dramatically reduced the housing backlog.

@jeffphilips1 is absolutely correct in this tweet. Many South Africans are xenophobic, but I am yet to find any of their women that is xenophobic. It is also rare to find xenophobic South Africans attack Nigerian Doctors that filled their hospitals.
Nigerian Professors are scattered all over their Universities. The entire Limpopo Province schools are filled with Nigerian science teachers, and its unheard of that they were attacked. Xenophobic violence is black South Africans facade for settling street crime disputes.
Atop South Africa's drug pyramid are Indians, and very recently, Chinese. Nigerians, White Zimbabweans, and a few South Africans have a place at the middle. Similarly, Nigerian entrants and many South African tsotsi (hooligans) occupy the bottom of "Nyaope" and Mephedrone trade.

South African has lots of problems and Nigerians are not part of them.
Even if all immigrants leave South Africa, it would not make a difference to socio-economic issues facing the country. And the idea that the country is overrun by immigrants has no data backings.

According to their 2011 census, there were 2.2 million foreigners in South Africa out of 55.9 million ( SA population). That is 5% of the total population. There's no clear evidence that foreigners are flooding their organizations, and misusing their amenities.
Immigrants are not responsible for South Africa’s underemployment rates. According to MiWORC, 85% of the working population are non migrants, 14% are domestic migrants and a low % of international migrants.
