Here's the White House's response to today's order from a judge in CA restoring a nationwide injunction re: the Trump admin's new asylum policy: "This ruling is a gift to human smugglers and traffickers and undermines the rule of law."

Still waiting to see what SCOTUs will do.

The judge rejected Stone's arg that the search warrants were unlawful because they relied on what he contends was the intelligence community's bad assessment of the DNC hack — the issue wasn't whether the IC was wrong, she wrote, but about good faith by those seeking the warrants

Thread: A judge just heard arguments on the ACLU’s challenge to how the Trump admin has been citing a parent’s criminal history to separate them from their children at the border. The language was heated at times between DOJ and ACLU lawyers.

So far, the govt has confirmed that nearly 1,000 kids have been separated from a parent at the border since the judge entered an injunction in June 2018 — there were exceptions, incl. for parents with criminal history, and this is a fight over what that should mean in practice
ACLU lawyer Lee Gelernt argued it would be “unprecedented and dangerous” to let the govt separate families based on criminal histories that the ACLU contends have no bearing on whether a parent poses a danger to their child — that it’s not about who is a good person or not

The census is constitutionally-mandated to begin in April 2020, under Article I, Section 2.

Trump is asking if he can IGNORE the Constitution b/c he doesn't like a SCOTUS decision.
#RELATED: The Supreme Court ruled against the Trump Administration's proposal to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census...for now.

It would've led to a severe undercount, which would've rigged elections and resources in favor of white Republicans.

After missing their deadline, some feared Trump may actually try to defy the Constitution and the law.

OK, we're on #SCOTUS watch now, waiting to see what, if any, new cases the justices agreed, at today's conference, to hear. These are almost certainly the last grants to be heard this term — unless the court grants an expedited briefing schedule or schedules late arguments.
One case likely to be in that follow-up group would be the Census citizenship question case, assuming DOJ seeks cert before judgment in the near future.
Besides the removal of the Census case from the argument calendar — — there was no news from #SCOTUS today, a move that likely means DACA, the trans ban, the Title VII LGBT cases, the Indiana abortion case won't be heard this term even if they are granted.
