A good watch and very well executed doc. Mads Brugger and his Cold Case Hammarskjöld is worth the time.
Brugger is the Sacha Baron Cohen of Denmark but far ballsier and much sharper
From rough beginnings....here he is putting the North Koreans on.
"So if I were to ask somebody “Would you like to see a documentary about the Central African Republic and systemic corruption and neo-colonialism,” many people would say “that sounds nice but I will take a rain check on that one.” africasacountry.com/2012/10/is-mad…
Mads is using the same technique I use in The World's Most Dangerous Places. An intellectually dense and funny travel guide to the world's ugliest wars. People would never read a dry fat book on conflict in the Current Affairs section but they gobble it up in the travel section
the faux doc is hard to pull off. It has to have high concept to carry it off.
The reverse of filmmakers fooling us about serious subjects is the documentary that exposes how people fool us. Something that becomes quite disturbing, limits their audience and veers into news. Theranos was an excellent journey into corporate deception.
Theranos director Alex Gibney has done docs on Enron and Scientology and like Brugger's exploration of murder and white racism, Gibney exposes the inherent deceit in Silicon Valley and startups. Add to this The Great Hack and you have a full weekend. businessinsider.com/hbo-theranos-d…
The Great Hack exposes the industry and people behind the business of deceiving people and democratic processes via information gleaned from social media to artificially shift democratic principals. Something that is happening right now.
These kind of ads popping up. Someone wants me to fill out a questionnaire on "Socialism Approval". Guess what they want? Guess who they are? Trump is currently hammering swing states with deceiving images and covert data mining. Anyone want to make a doc?
