When you see women defending Brett Kavanaugh this morning it’s a good reminder that this isn’t a gender war, it’s a war between those who believe we should raise men and boys better, and those who don’t.
@RebeccaCokley A lot of women are invested in the status quo. I've interviewed several of them and many of them told me that boys and girls should be raised differently and that questioning the way we raise boys is inherently bad for them, when data points to the very contrary.
These are the same people who believe that men and boys are inherently in less need of affection, care and that too much emotional support can be bad for them, when we know that boys aren't acting out because of too much support, they're acting out because they have no support.
The crucial battle that will play out will not be between men and women, but rather between people who believe gender is real and those who know it isn't. Boys will be boys so long as this is the expectation we set for them. Boys will be better when we give them more choices.
these interviews are all detailed in my book so if you like check out it out! elizabethplank.com/book
