As I was reporting my book out, I was shocked to find hardly any research on the intersection of terrorism and gender. We pay attention to gender when it’s a female terrorist, but there’s not the same curiosity when it comes to men, because we omit that they have a gender too.
When I interviewed an expert on terrorism and asked him what was the number one characteristic that made a man more likely to be successfully recruited for violence he said two words: “emotional pliability.” Bannon was right. 
Bannon knows it. Trump knows it. Fox News knows it. Isolated men on the internet are their prime target and it’s working.
The only question is: why aren’t we doing anything about it?
