If men (and women) in more gender-equal countries are less likely to get divorced, be depressed or die as a result of violence, why is gender equality only seen as a women’s issue?
According to the data there is a direct correlation between the state of gender equality in a country and male well-being, as measured by factors such as welfare, mental health, fertility and suicide.
While men’s rights activists use shorter male life expentancy to undercut feminist arguments, saying feminism causes men to decline is like saying firefighters cause fire.
Feminism is the antidote to shorter male life expectancy, not the cause of it. In societies where more women are empowered to work, men are less likely to kill themselves during economic recessions.
Given we might be entering a recession and that we’ve seen a recent rash of spike in suicide rates for cab drivers and truck drivers can we talk about masculinity now?
