Follow back is based on engagement it doesn’t matter how many followers you have. We must learn to respect everyone regardless of their age or perceived influence. Everyone must be given the opportunity to express themselves whether we connect or not. #YouAreEnough
Nothing best illustrates this than the story of Robert G. Heft who designed the 50 star American flag when he was 15 for a school project. His teacher gave him a B- & said, “If you can get the President to accept it as the new 50 state design, I’ll give you an A+”...
So he called the White House 11times to speak with President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The President called his home and asked him to come to DC to present his design. It was adopted as the official US flag on August 21st, 1959. And yes the teacher gave him an A+, 2yrs after.
This is why I’m slow to shutdown people however stupid they sound provided they are not vituperative or attempt to twist my words to suit their own agenda in a mendacious way. We all have something to give and there is no time to explore than in the days of our youth.
Education is a game of the wealthy. It cost a great deal of time. This is why in the Greek culture the only people who value education are the wealthy and they constitute the voting public.
Being rich is merely having money, which can also trap you in a rat race but being wealthy is being able to make out time for events that add quality to your life. It’s not cheap to educate the impetuous & impressionable online. It cost a great deal of time to master the art.
There’s a plethora of unwritten rules of engagement in the art of online engagement. It’s like taking flight, which requires giving up everything that weighs you down. Prejudices most especially which can be read a mile off by those gifted with the spirit of discerning.
The art of Engagement is a journey for both the tweep and the readers who are also part of what is being contributed. It is about chemistry and connectivity towards the brew of a unique ideal owned and shared by all believers cum evangelists of the construct. It can’t be forced.
It is natural for people to try as much as possible to protect themselves from losing what they have held to be true all their lives, by merely stumbling on a single thread without a struggle. I see this most times and I caution myself from reacting once it appears.
In the spirit of education it is often advised that the enlightened deem all ideas as probably wrong thus the need to avoid falling for anything that strikes one with a force of brilliance. This is where critical thinking comes in. It’s like haggling in a trade but intellectually
It is neither a show of supremacy nor a battle of wits. It is the responsibility of all participants to protect the utility of the idea from being tainted or destroyed. (This is why I block idiots). The wise however would tactically assault the idea with everything they’ve got...
...and see if it survives. This is Peterson’s rule by the way. Once the driver of the idea shows enough discipline, temerity, resilience with superior argument enough to convince without any reasonable doubt, then it is worth adopting & jettisoning the old reasoning/construct.
This is why social media especially Twitter is a culture that depicts an ongoing conversation. People will test your resolve and consistency. They will match your action with your words over the years. No idea is a communist manifesto online. It will be tested.
No doubt if you have been uncannily accurate over the years you will be deemed a threat of some sorts by sentimentalists who feel inferior or intimidated by you in a polarized society such as ours. Still we must give room for people to express themselves. Feel their pulse.
