thank you for contextualizing this monument to slavery
four hundred years ago, in august 1619, the first enslaved africans were brought to virginia. that is the virginia robert e lee fought to preserve and that is the virginia we’re choosing to honor by keeping this statue up.
lee got washed clean today but they haven’t gotten around to powerwashing the jackson statue yet
oh dear i don’t remember seeing this damage to faith & valor on the front of the jackson statue before. they really ought to move this statue someplace safer like a museum. it may be a racist piece of trash but it is technically a valuable work of art.
