And no the first enslaved Africans did not arrive in 1619. The first enslaved Africans exiled to British mainland North America was Jamestown. The first enslaved Africans arrived in South Carolina in 1526 under the Spanish.
Long before there was a St. Augustine, the enslaved Africans who had arrived in 1526 became the first permanent non-native people to settle and remain in what would become the United States.
It was the only successful revolt of enslaved people in the history of American slavery. The Spanish ran. The Africans remained with Native American allies. Welcome to the real American history.
The real American history is dependent on the moment when the subjugation and continued exploitation of African women and men is made generational and legally consistent. Upon this moment the American economy found its cornerstone.
#UponTheseShores1619 is a part of every single Americans story. We are survivors. We are your blood. We are your soldiers and your saviors your teachers and preachers. We are your labor, your leisure, your laughter and your fear&fantasy. We are African America. 400 years strong.
