Poor families are collectively $512 billion below the poverty based on market income. This is how much each program, acting alone, cut that gap.

The current poor look like this: 64% are children, elderly, disabled, or students. Another 16% worked for 50+ weeks last year.

Given these figures, the best way forward for welfare development is a universal child benefit, Social Security for kids.
