Democrats know they cannot win the election next year on current course. So impeachment is a Hail Mary pass, in the hope that by some miracle they might score. They know they have no other chance. So here it goes!
We shall see.
Pelosi is well within her rights to ask her committee chairs to inquire about any legitimate matter, and whistleblower complaint is a legitimate matter, but impeachment requires a House vote. She doesn't have the votes ... yet.
Pelosi called it an impeachment inquiry, but without a House vote to proceed with an impeachment inquiry, it sounds more like a call to launch a fishing expedition to come up with something that the House can vote on.
Pelosi has given the committee chairs the impeachment rope. We will see if they will lasso Trump or hang themselves with it.
Nothing! Manu Raju explains that what "Pelosi is endorsing is a continuation of existing investigations" under Nadler and other House committees so they can collect evidence "to recommend articles of impeachment."
"This election is over. I realize 2016 did not turn out the way Speaker Pelosi wanted it to happen, but she cannot change the laws of this Congress. She cannot unilaterally decide we are in an impeachment inquiry."
